Don Cleary Appointed President of Canada for Marriott International
I am pleased to announce that Don Cleary will join the Americas Leadership team as President of Canada. Effective March 7, Don will report directly to me and have responsibility for the leadership, operations and financial management of the hotels in Canada. He will lead the transition of the managed and franchised Delta hotels into our portfolio. Don brings with him a wealth of experience, including a previous role with market responsibility for Canada.
Currently, Don is Chief Operations Officer, Asia Pacific where he has operating responsibility for the region’s hotels and plays an integral role in the development of their portfolio. In late 2010, Don moved to Hong Kong for his role as the Chief Financial Officer, Asia Pacific, where he led all continent finance functions.
Prior to joining the Asia Pacific team, Don held multiple leadership positions in North America including Area Vice President, Western Region, Americas, where he was responsible for hotel operations covering mid-western states and Canada. Don also held multiple positions focused on development in Central and South America including Vice President, International Hotel Development, as well as Assistant General Counsel responsible for all development-related legal activities in those regions.
In addition to Don reporting to me, the following Americas leaders will also report directly to me as a result of Jim Kauffman’s retirement last year:
- David Marriott, COO, Americas Eastern Region
- Rob Steigerwald, COO, Americas Western Region
- Noah Silverman, Chief Development Officer, North America Full Service Hotels, will have a solid line to both me and Tony Capuano, Executive Vice President & Chief Development Officer.
Also, Steve Heitzner, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for The Americas, is taking on an expanded role. He is now responsible for all Americas revenue generation disciplines including Sales, Marketing, Digital and Revenue Management. To ensure alignment of resources, Mark Martens, Chief Revenue Management Officer will report directly to Steve and Mark will continue to be part of my leadership team.
