Pet Fee and Smoke Free Environment Fee Updates

This information will be communicated to hotels in the U.S. & Canada via the May 21 Weekly Update.

Franchise Management Companies | To align with Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI) guidance for reporting a Pet Fee and/or Smoke Free Environment Fee, the following clarifications have been made:

  • Smoking Fees:
    • Smoking is not allowed at Marriott hotels. Any fees related to recovery of cleaning and damage will be claimed as miscellaneous income.
  • Pet Fees:
  • Pet fees quoted in advance to the customer will continue to be treated as “Other Room Revenue”.
  • Pet fees related to damages or cleaning charges after the fact should be classified as Miscellaneous Income.

Property management system updates were implemented within FOSSE for Select Brand Marriott Rewards hotels. Hotels using alternative PMS systems will need to have their System Administrator account for changes and update their PMS.

We ask that you work with your property finance team(s) to better understand these changes and ensure they are following and complying with this USALI guidance. Should you have any questions, contact AmericasFranchise Finance@marriott.com.
