Deadline Approaching: Required Upgrades to Windows 10 Enterprise and Office 2016

As previously communicated, all Marriott-imaged PCs and tablets must be running Windows 10 by September 30, 2019 to ensure continued access to the Marriott network, and remain compliant with Marriott security standards. Associates using a Marriott-imaged PC or tablet (including a MAC virtual machine) that has not yet been upgraded to Windows 10 and is still running the Windows 7 Operating System will be blocked from the Marriott network shortly after the September 30 deadline. Windows 10 is now the standard operating system for Marriott-imaged PCs and tablets (including MAC virtual machines).

Windows 10 offers numerous benefits to owners and franchisees, including:

  • Faster, more responsive design with a new modern browser for web and touchscreen capabilities
  • Dynamic start menu, which can be customized to your preferences and can keep your most important apps at your fingertips
  • Customizable notifications and alerts center
  • Seamless transition between computers, tablets, and mobile devices.

Associates in the U.S. or Canada with Marriott-imaged PCs or tablets running Windows 7 Operating Systems should take the following actions:

  • Go to the Marriott Service Portal and submit a Reimage Marriott PC Request to reimage to Windows 10, or work directly with your property Continent iT or Franchise Technology contact to request a replacement device.
  • Note: there is a base per-PC service charge of $236 USD (billed to franchise property) for Marriott to reimage a computer or tablet. Additional charges may apply based on the amount of data to be transferred.

We recommend that you review your total PC inventory and plan for PC purchases and upgrades. The 2019 CAPEX & OPEX Guidelines (Managed by Marriott Owners | Franchise Management Companies) include requirements and costs should you wish to review.

In addition to these Windows 10 updates, effective September 30, 2019 associates that are using a Marriott-provided email (@marriott.com or @brand.com) and have not upgraded to Office 2016 will lose Outlook access from their desktop to Marriott email. Access to email will continue to be available through Office 365 online web access.

Associates with computers or tablets running any version lower than Office 2016 or Office 365 should work with their local iT Field Associate (System Manager) or Franchise Technology POC for assistance or questions on how to upgrade or replace current software.

For questions and additional resources, contact your Franchise Technology POC or visit MGS.
