Marriott International to Acquire Delta Hotels and Resorts

As announced earlier this morning, Marriott International has signed definitive agreements to acquire the Delta Hotels and Resorts® brand and its management and franchise business from Delta Hotels Limited Partnership, a subsidiary of the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC). Delta, founded in 1962, has an established reputation as the largest full service and most recognized hotel brand in Canada, with a footprint of 38 hotels and 10,000 rooms.

This transaction will make Marriott International the largest full service hotel company in Canada, increasing distribution by more than 50% and growing our Canadian portfolio to over 120 hotels and 27,000 rooms. Integrating Delta into Marriott’s powerful sales and revenue engines will result in operational efficiencies for both companies, and will increase Marriott brand recognition in Canada, which is the top source market for international travel to the U.S. and a significant source market for Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

We look forward to welcoming the historic Delta name to Marriott’s worldwide portfolio of brands in the second quarter of 2015, assuming receipt of all necessary approvals. As with Protea and Gaylord Hotels, Marriott will continue to strategically add premier brands that provide a wider range of offerings for our guests as well as growth opportunities for our owners, franchisees and associates.
