Marriott’s Update on Wi-Fi Blocking
Franchisees | To address customer concerns, Marriott recently issued a press release confirming that we will not block guests from using their personal Wi-Fi devices at any of our Marriott-managed hotels. Marriott remains committed to protecting the security of Wi-Fi access in meeting and conference areas at our hotels. We will continue to look to the FCC to clarify appropriate security measures network operators can take to protect customer data, and will continue to work with the industry and others to find appropriate market solutions that do not involve the blocking of Wi-Fi devices.
Given the recent customer concerns, you should determine if your hotel uses containment technology, and if so, we strongly advise that it not be utilized to manage your Wi-Fi network. Until the FCC provides guidance, you should consult with your technical experts and legal counsel to determine what technology should be used to address security threats.
