Guestroom Telephone Standard Updated

U.S. Franchisees | As previously communicated, there was a tragedy in December 2013 in which a woman was killed in a non-Marriott-branded hotel room. During the attack, attempts to reach emergency services were unsuccessful due to the need to dial “9” before “911” in order to get the call out. Following that event, Marriott partnered with the AH&LA to ensure that all telephone systems allow for guests to dial 911 directly from their guestrooms (without having to dial 8 or 9 for an outside line first). We appreciate your support of this effort to ensure the safety and security of guests at all Marriott-branded hotels.

To further support this effort, we have also updated Marriott’s Guestroom Telephone Standard to ensure that all telephone faceplates reflect the direct dial capabilities.

  • Hotels with faceplates currently containing a prefix (i.e., 8-911 or 9-911) are asked to order new faceplates by Dec. 31, 2015 and install by Jan. 31, 2016.
  • Hotels with faceplates that do not explicitly state “Emergency…911” are asked to order and install new faceplates by March 31, 2016.
  • No action is required of hotels with faceplates that currently state “Emergency…911.”

Marriott has negotiated discounted pricing with Desi and has also made the new faceplate templates available via BrandWorks for hotels wishing to use another vendor. These details, as well as ordering information, will be shared with hotels via the December 14 Weekly Update.

We appreciate your continued support in ensuring that guest safety and security remains a top priority at all Marriott-branded hotels.
