Mobile Key Contract Update | April 2017

The Mobile Guest Services team would like to announce resumed deployment for Mobile Key in the U.S. & Canada for MH, Moxy, and AC Brands in May, global pilot kick-off for Mobile Key in June, and additional vendor options for BLE RFID locks due to newly-negotiated contracts. The Mobile Key contracts, which contain both a software and hardware agreement with added liability and indemnification protections, have been finalized with two lock vendors – Saflok (Dorma Kaba) and Assa Abloy (Ving). The Mobile Key Lock Standard has been updated to include both lock vendors. Currently, Saflok (Dorma Kaba) and Assa Abloy (Ving) are the only certified lock vendors in the Lock Standard, providing RFID BLE locks. However, the Lock Standard will be updated with an additional lock vendor (Onity), once final contract negotiations with Onity are complete. For additional information about the Lock Standard, reference the Mobile Key Lock Background and Mobile Key Lock FAQs.

Mobile Key Deployment | Marriott-Branded Properties

Mobile Key deployment will now resume in US/Canada for MH, Moxy, and AC brands. Applicable properties in US & Canada will be notified with deployment details in early May for a Q3-Q4 go-live timeframe. In addition, global Mobile Key pilots will be finalized in May for a kick-off in June.

Mobile Key deployment across all Marriott Hotels in the US & Canada began in 2016 and all MH-branded properties will launch by the end of Q4, 2017. To help facilitate the deployment of the Mobile Key Lock Standard for Marriott Hotels in the US & Canada, Marriott International will provide a one-time incentive of up to $75 per lock to help offset the cost of lock retrofits or replacements. This will be a brand standard for MH, planned to be enforced beginning in 2018. Mobile Key will expand to MH properties in other continents this year and other brands in 2018; however, properties that can implement may launch earlier.

Mobile Key Costs

Mobile Key costs include an initial server cost, as well as ongoing costs for both server patching and Mobile Key (the ongoing cost for Mobile Key is $8-11 per year per lock). Upon installation, properties will pay an initial fee that covers the recurring lock fees of the installation year until July (pro-rated according to Go Live month implemented). In July, properties will be billed through MI Centralized Billing for the upcoming full year (July – July), every year. The expense should be charged to:

  • Managed: 0400-664562 SW Exp/Maint
  • Franchised: Systems department 0400 in a miscellaneous SW Expense/License line

SPG Keyless Impacts

SPG Keyless is a brand standard at W, Aloft, and Element brands, and is live at over 175 hotels globally. The approved lock vendor for these three brands is Assa Abloy (Ving). SPG Keyless will be deployed to new build hotels, as well as over 20 existing Aloft, Element, and W hotels this year under the guidance of the SPG Keyless Project team. Ongoing support for live hotels will be provided through the Mobile Guest Services support solution.

In 2018, all SPG Keyless hotels will transition to the Marriott Mobile Key solution. To prepare for the transition of all SPG Keyless hotels to the Marriott Mobile Key solution, all hotels outside of the brand standard are recommended to continue installing locks compatible with the Lock Standard, with either Saflok (Dorma Kaba) and Assa Abloy (Ving). Additional details will be provided in June.
