New Distinctive Select GM and Orientation & Service Training Requirements For 2018


AC, Moxy, Aloft and Element Owners & Franchise Management CompaniesThe Distinctive Select Brand Team will align 2018 training requirements across the brands in two areas – Orientation and Service, and GM-specific training.

These training programs are designed to ensure associates will have the distinctive mindset, skills and information to provide an on-brand experience for every guest at every property. They will also help set the foundation for more effective operational execution of hotel processes each day. 

Key Training Highlights:

  • Orientation and Service Training:
    • AC and Moxy: Remain the same
    • Aloft and Element: New, engaging lifestyle brand training to replace Masterclass, including orientation, service training and daily meetings
      • GMs will be asked to identify a Property Coach (known as the Culture Sidekick) who will champion this training and ensure property pull-through
      • As of Jan. 1, 2018, all new hires should complete their new orientation and service trainings
      • As of Jan. 1, 2018, every property should host a daily meeting
    • Property communications are scheduled to begin in November with deployment resources to follow in order to help GMs and Culture Sidekicks prepare to launch the new training on Jan. 1, 2018.
  • GM Training:
    • The new Distinctive Select Brand GM training package includes the following three offerings:
      • Brand Immersion – to be completed within the first 90 days (new hires only – $950)
      • Connect U (new hires only)
        • Operational Excellence – to be completed within the first 60 days ($2,200)
        • Strategic Alignment – to be completed within the first 12 months ($1,570)
      • Distinctive Connection (required for new hires AND all existing GMs) – to be completed within the first 6-12 months ($1,000)
    • AC and Moxy: All remain the same for all GMs with the addition of Distinctive Connection which provides enhanced distinctive brand leadership training
    • Aloft and Element: All new GM training offerings above required as of Jan. 1, 2018 (Brand Immersion replaces Starwood Executive Training) – Distinctive Connection required for all GMs
    • Property communications are scheduled to begin in November
