SPG Keyless Update | Q1 2018
In late 2018, hotels with SPG Keyless will transition to the Marriott Mobile Key + Mobile Check-In/Check-Out solution. To prepare for future integration activities, all SPG Keyless hotels must update their server software in Q1 2018. Server software update activities will begin with impacted properties in mid-January. All hotels which planned to deploy SPG Keyless in Q4 2017 or plan to do so in Q1 2018 must go live by February 2018 so they can complete the lock server software updates and prepare for the future integration. Server Update Overview
Mobile Key + Mobile Check-In/Check-Out offers a complete mobile check-in experience by giving guests more control over their arrival experience, while enabling hotels to focus on the loyalty mindset. The transition of SPG Keyless to Mobile Key + Mobile Check-In/Check-Out is a two-phase project: Phase 1 will begin in Q1 2018 to update lock server software and prepare for the transition, and Phase 2 will begin in mid-2018 to convert to the Mobile Key solution. More information will be provided via direct communications to impacted hotel GMs.
Cost Information
Effective January 1, 2018, hotels with SPG Keyless have moved from individual property invoicing (in which the property receives the invoice directly from the vendor) to centralized billing (Marriott International pays the vendor’s invoice centrally and then allocates the amount to properties).
- The cost will decrease from $12 per lock annually to $9 per lock annually under Marriott’s contract with Ving (Assa Abloy)
- Hotels will be required to sign a new participation agreement with the vendor, which will be provided via Land-It. The participation agreement provides both software and hardware agreements with liability and indemnification protections for hotels.
- Today, hotels are billed for SPG Keyless annually in January (for January 1 – December 31). Marriott’s current contract is billed annually in July (for July 1 – June 30). Hotels will receive a pro-rated invoice for the January 1, 2018 – June 30, 2018 timeframe and receive another invoice for the full year (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019).
- Ongoing cost information (as previously shared during budgeting)
- Mobile Guest Services: $1.65 per room per month
- SPG Keyless: $9 per lock annually
If SPG Keyless functionality was discontinued at W, Aloft, or Element hotels due to lack of payment, hotels will be expected to participate in SPG Keyless and pay all invoices going forward, per the Check-In Brand Standard.
SPG Keyless Background
SPG Keyless is a brand standard for Aloft, Element, and W hotels and is currently live across over 190+ hotels globally. Through February 2018, SPG Keyless is being deployed to new opening hotels, as well as over 20 existing hotels under the guidance of the Mobile Key Project team. It is imperative hotels going through SPG Keyless deployment go live by February 2018 to prepare for the integration activities.
