Introducing EMV Pay@Table

Marriott is currently working with Elavon on a integrated payment solution for full service properties using GPOS Simphony which will accept EMV (Eurocard, Mastercard, and Visa) Chip and Pin, and enables tableside payment in Food & Beverage outlets.

This solution is expected to be available in Q4 for full service Marriott Rewards properties using hosted GPOS Simphony. In the interim, hotels will receive a survey link via the June 4 Weekly Update on how to submit their interest for participating in EMV Pay@Table in 2018 or 2019. Hotels are asked to complete this survey by June 17.

Benefits for implementing EMV Pay@Table include:

  • Reduced cycle times. The wait time to process a credit card transaction is greatly reduced when the card never has to leave the table, and results in higher table turns, more face-to-face interaction with guests, and decreased wait time.
  • Reduced chargebacks. While we implemented Payment Validation at Time of Booking to reduce chargebacks, implementing EMV Pay@Table will also reduce the risk of absorbing any disputed credit card payments in Food & Beverage, Retail, & Golf outlets, regardless of the amount.
  • Reductions in identity theft. EMV Pay@Table eliminates many methods of identity theft by keeping cards in the guests’ possession.

As recently communicated, we are continuing to monitor EMV credit card solutions for the front desk (PMS systems), and will share updates on these efforts as they become available.
