Mobile Key Activation Next Steps


As communicated in February, Mobile Key is now a portfolio-wide brand standard and all hotels will be required to be live with Mobile Key by January 1, 2021. In addition, all Marriott Rewards and Ritz-Carlton Rewards hotels with Mobile Key certified RFID BLE locks already installed must activate Mobile Key in 2018.

After publishing the brand standard, we kicked off deployment for hotels identified as having the correct locks installed. More than 250 hotels have successfully activated Mobile Key and 300 more are expected to go-live in the weeks ahead. Since then, our lock vendors have identified an additional group of approximately 80 properties (SPG not applicable) with the correct locks installed.


Actions Required

Hotels identified as having Mobile Key certified locks installed will receive a kick-off communication and a Land-It task list next week with actions to activate Mobile Key. Lock vendors will send installation teams onsite as needed to program locks, configure servers, and complete testing to ensure hotels are able to go-live. All relevant one-time and ongoing costs will be deferred for 2018 and will be included in the 2019 budget instructions.

Any Marriott Rewards or The Ritz-Carlton hotels that believe they have the correct locks installed and are not live with Mobile Key should contact mobileservices@marriott.com to receive a task list to activate Mobile Key.
