After 37 years of helping to grow and shape Marriott International, Rob Steigerwald, Chief Operations Officer, The Americas – West Region, has decided to retire. His last day in the office will be December 21, 2018. Rob’s commitment to excellence and taking care of associates and guests will be missed.
Over his career, Rob has held a variety of impressive roles and titles, but what is most impressive are his contributions to Marriott International and the hospitality industry. He started his Marriott career in 1981 as a Restaurant Manager at the Crystal City Marriott and then had several Food & Beverage assignments where he won the Food & Beverage Director of the Year award. Rob’s career continued to progress, and he held several GM roles where as GM of Harbor Beach Marriott Resort he was named GM of the Year for the entire company.
In his latest role as Chief Operations Officer, Rob has overseen the operations of hotels in 27 states and in French Polynesia. Previously, he was Chief Operations Officer, The Americas – Southern Region, responsible for all Marriott brands, including The Ritz-Carlton, in seven southern states and 25 countries in the Caribbean and Central and South America. He truly set the stage for the growth we see in CALA now. Prior to that, Rob was Executive Vice President for the Central Region, overseeing the operations of more than 880 Marriott properties in 17 states and Canada.
Outside of Marriott, he has lobbied for the industry. Rob has received the American Hospitality & Lodging Association’s Most Valuable Volunteer Award and has served on the Executive Committee of the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau as well as chaired the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association. Currently, he serves on the Board of Governors for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a testament to his dedication to taking care of others.
We anticipate announcing Rob’s successor in the coming weeks. Please join us in thanking Rob for his many contributions to Marriott over his renowned career.
