Courtyard GoBoard Program Changes
When the GoBoard first launched in 2007, it was an innovative digital concierge that provided local information to Courtyard guests that they could not readily access on their own. Over time, the GoBoard content has evolved to promote brand programs like the Bistro and NFL, as well as Marriott Rewards.
With technology today enabling guests to access information on their own devices and Marriott’s digital ecosystem now pulling brand and Marriott International programs through the guestroom entertainment (GRE) platform, mobile app, and hotel websites (HWS), the GoBoard is no longer serving a unique purpose for the brand.
Therefore, we have made the decision to begin removing the GoBoard from Courtyard hotels in North America through a phased approach.
Effective Immediately
New Build Hotels – GoBoard Not Required: The Global Design team will partner with owners who have projects under construction to determine the appropriate solution for each hotel.
Beginning in 2019
All Open Hotels – Reduced Monthly Cost: The GoBoard design will be simplified and the cost will be reduced to $99 / month, from $198.50 / month today. No action is required of hotels to implement this change. The new design will focus on brand and Marriott International programming that will continue to drive guests to the Bistro and promote the loyalty program. Along with these changes, the new design will remove the touchscreen functionality and will no longer require property-level input. Hotels will not be allowed to remove the GoBoard in 2019 due to the existing contract with Four Winds.
Beginning in 2020
All Open Hotels – GoBoard Removal Begins: Hotels may begin removing the GoBoard during their public space renovation based on new design guidelines to be published by year-end 2019. Alternately, hotels may opt to remove the GoBoard before their next scheduled public space renovation, only by leveraging the brand-approved design approach to the removal.
Until the GoBoard is removed, as outlined above, the GoBoard is required in hotels and must be operational. Should the hardware need to be replaced in a hotel prior to removal, new specifications have been identified at a significantly reduced cost: $1,180 for the screen (a cost reduction of $1,682) and $525 for the player (a cost reduction of $363). The GoBoard will continue to be evaluated on the BSA as a 16-point question until it has been approved for removal.
The GoBoard was a breakthrough signature element for Courtyard when it launched and has evolved over time with technology enhancements. In most hotels, it is the one of the first elements guests see after walking in the door and is a key factor in their first impression of the property. Therefore, hotels must follow the phased approach to the GoBoard retirement outlined above to ensure we do not detract from the guest experience during this time of transition.
More detailed information on the GoBoard retirement will be available on MGS and via future hotel communications.
