Courtyard, Residence Inn, Fairfield, and TownePlace Suites: Highway (State DOT) Signage Replacement Initiative

Courtyard, Residence Inn, Fairfield, and TownePlace Suites Owners, Franchisees, and Franchise Management Companies in the U.S. | To elevate brand perceptions across the Classic Select Brands by creating a cohesive, visual branding of State Department of Transportation (DOT) highway signage, the Brand Marketing team has engaged Interstate Logos and Korman Signs to fabricate and oversee the replacement of current mainline, ramp, and trailblazer lodging highway signs with new logos. Hotel signage acts as “billboards” for the brands so it is important that we provide that same elevated and modernized image. Funded by Brand Marketing, this initiative will replace existing signage in 46 U.S. states on a rolling basis through 2020. Highway (State DOT) signage in the following five states and territories will not be replaced because currently signage doesn’t exist due to state and local regulations: Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota, Vermont, and District of Columbia.

No action is required from the hotels. However, any highway (State DOT) signage contractual renewals and applicable annual fees required by the DOTs will continue to be the responsibility of the hotel.

This initiative complements the brand standard that requires hotels to replace exterior signage by January 1, 2022 that was previously communicated as it will elevate the brand image and keep the brands relevant with their target customers.

Please Note: Currently, Marriott isn’t centrally authorizing and managing the replacement of Four Points and SpringHill Suites highway signage. However, SpringHill Suites will begin a highway signage replacement initiative in 2020. Existing and new Four Points and SpringHill Suites hotels can order highway signage through one of the two approved vendors at the hotel’s expense.
