Washcloth Program Changes


The following information will be shared with hotels via the October 20 Weekly Update.

As part of the ongoing effort to realize portfolio-wide cost synergies and drive value to Marriott International hotels, we are pleased to announce a washcloth spec/program change for all Premium* and Select Service brands. Between now and April 2020, hotels will begin transitioning to a new Welspun washcloth spec. Benefits of the new spec include significantly lower cost per unit due to Marriott’s size and scale, and having all brands with the same spec moving forward. Additionally, the new washcloth spec provides enhanced quality and durability. Hotels should review the following guidance:

  • Purchasing: American Hotel Register will automatically phase in the new washcloths once existing inventories are depleted. There is no action required for hotels as order guides will automatically be updated.
  • Room Ready: The new washcloth must be washed prior to first placement in the guestroom. This is a procedure change for some brands.
  • Managing the Transition: During the transition, hotels may have to manage two styles of washcloth for a period of time. Hotels are encouraged to keep the same type of washcloth in the guestroom and not mix the two types.

Note: The washcloth will not have the branded tags like the previous version.
