California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) Update – November 2019
The California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) comes into effect on January 1, 2020, giving California residents more control over their Personal Information. In particular, the CCPA allows California residents to request that a company not sell their data and make access and deletion requests.
Marriott is committed to privacy and a significant amount of work has already been undertaken to ensure Marriott is CCPA-ready. This includes:
- Individual Privacy Rights – Access and Deletion Requests: Marriott has developed an internal process to handle these types of requests from Marriott’s global centralized systems. As part of this process, Marriott’s internal teams will be communicating and coordinating with properties, as needed.
- Notice: We are updating Marriott’s Global Privacy Statement to acknowledge the CCPA, which will include a link to a separate California Consumer Privacy Act Statement.
- Training & Awareness: Marriott offers Global Privacy training and will evaluate whether to include any references to the CCPA. Details will be shared with hotels via Weekly Update by early December.
We will share more details on what Marriott has done to prepare for CCPA, and what you can do now, on the Nov. 8 Franchise Management Company webinar. Click here to register.
