Shift4 Acquisition Update

As previously communicated, MerchantLink is being acquired by Shift4 and some hotels have been contacted by Shift4 to request action.

Please note that hotels that have been contacted by Shift4 will not be affected by the Merchant Link platform shutdown. Marriott has been granted a six-month extension, which means hotels will not experience a shutdown after Dec. 31, 2019. We will prioritize the migration of impacted hotels to the FreedomPay Chip and PIN solution as soon as possible in the first half of 2020.

Hotel Action Required

Through Marriott’s discussions with Shift4, we have determined there are only a small number of hotels that will be impacted. Impacted hotels received a direct communication from Marriott’s Chip and PIN team on December 17 with additional information.

  • Impacted hotels that have yet to complete the Chip and PIN Equipment Ordering and Property Information Survey will be asked to log on to Land-It to complete the survey as soon as possible so we can prioritize their migration date before the Shift4 extension expires.
  • Impacted hotels that have completed the survey do not need to take any action at this time; however, these hotels should be on the lookout for communications regarding their Chip and PIN deployment date.

Background

As a reminder, the Chip and PIN solution is intended to reduce fraud chargebacks and provide a global gateway solution to bring added payments capability in the future with Marriott’s selected global gateway provider, FreedomPay. FreedomPay is replacing Elavon and Merchant Link gateways and Chase will remain Marriott’s credit card processor. The FreedomPay gateway solution will be established as a brand standard in Q1 2020. This solution is for PMS, Spasoft and GPOS, which also includes Pay at Table capability that is mandatory for F&B outlets offering table service.

Note: The Chip and PIN mailbox will no longer be monitored for questions/inquiries starting Jan. 1. Please submit any future questions via a SNOW ticket.
