Action Requested (U.S. Only) – New Federal Requirement to Enable Selling Group Government Business
On November 1, 2014, a new federal government requirement became effective that poses a revenue risk to hotels. Going forward, to host group business with the government, a hotel must have a Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code for the owner of the hotel (both Marriott-managed and franchised). Previously, only the hotel management company was required to have an active CAGE Code to be awarded business from the federal government.
This change requires every hotel owner to have their own CAGE Code and share it with their hotel before the hotel can bid on business with any federal entity. Hotels cannot complete a new System for Award Management (SAM) registration or renew this registration until they have this code. This also impacts existing group room/event contracts, which will be cancelled if the hotel is non-compliant.
The CAGE Code Registration Job Aid walks through completing the simple registration at http://www.dla.mil. Registration should be completed and CAGE Codes should be shared as quickly as possible to avoid revenue loss. If you already have a CAGE Code (which can be confirmed at sam.gov by selecting “search records”), please share it with your GMs. FAQs are also available to answer any questions.
