Integration Update | Growth and Development

When reviewing proposed development opportunities, Marriott seeks to balance distribution growth with the interests of owners of existing or approved hotels by considering potential impact issues that may arise from a proposed project. The Growth Administration process works towards this goal by notifying owners, franchisees and managers of proposed development within the relevant market area (generally a 5-mile radius from the proposed site) and soliciting responses to be considered at the monthly Growth Administration Committee (GAC).

Beginning in 2017, the Starwood brands listed below will be subject to Marriott’s Growth Administration process. As in the past, recipients of GAC notices may (1) submit a written objection to the proposed project, and (2) request for a third-party market study to assess the projected impact. Beginning in 2017, however, market studies may only be requested for proposed projects within the same category as the objecting hotel (e.g., Full Service hotels can request studies for proposed Full Service projects). Below you’ll find the new GAC categories, and the brands subject to the Growth Administration process:

Full Service: Autograph Collection Hotels, Delta Hotels, JW Marriott, Le Meridién, Marriott Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, Sheraton, Tribute Portfolio, and Westin Hotels & Resorts

Select Service / Extended Stay: AC Hotels, Aloft Hotels, Courtyard, Element, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Four Points, MOXY, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, and TownePlace Suites
